“Dr. Vergason is almost a native coming to Arizona at age 7. He and his wife Lisa of 42 years have owned a home in Prescott Valley since 2015. Dr. Vergason graduated from Arizona State University with honors in 2002, and earned his DVM degree from Colorado State University in 2006.
Dr. Vergason has always worked 60-80 hours a week as an emergency veterinarian and/or practicing daytime general veterinary medicine. He believes being good in one field of veterinary medicine makes you better in the other.
Dr. Vergason proudly served our country with his veterinary skills as a Major in the US Army Reserve. He was deployed to the Middle East in 2010, and to the Arctic Circle twice for humanitarian aid missions.
Dr. Vergason states: “After 15 years of practice, I continue to have a strong passion to practice high quality, science based medicine, with a strong emphasis on client education, and consider it an honor to be of service to pet owners who think of their pets as true members of their family.”
Dr. Vergason confesses to being a workaholic, but enjoys any activity that includes family time, gym time, and hiking, kayaking, and travel especially if all of the above includes his two Cairn Terriers, Ozzie and Koa. And Marley when he is in a good mood! Dr. Vergason’s favorite pet is any pet that is healthy!”

What is your favorite animal: My favorite animal is a fox bat.
What is the best part of your job: The best part of my job is being the last line of defense against the angel of death. Every time I save the life of an animal I know in my very soul that I am doing what I was made to do.
Where are you from: I am originally from southwest Kansas and then moved here from beautiful Colorado.
What are your hobbies: I love to travel and spend time with my grandchildren.
What are you passionate about: I am incredibly passionate about kindness. I feel everyone should be treated with kindness, especially the elderly, children, and animals. Kahla Merrett, DVM
Dr. Kahla Merrett spent most of her childhood moving throughout Arizona until herself an her family settled in Carefree, Arizona. When she was six years old her mother gave her a dress-up doctor kit and she enthusiastically placed bandages on her two patient dogs and unimpressed cat. She graduated from Arizona State University in 2014 with a degree in biochemistry. She went on to complete a master’s degree in chemistry from Northern Arizona University in 2017. During her time at NAU she began volunteering at a local animal shelter and shadowing her lifelong veterinarian to pursue her dream to become a veterinarian. She completed her Doctorate in Veterinary Medicine in 2021 from Midwestern University. During her time as a student at Midwestern University she volunteered at the Wildlife World Zoo, performed research on white tailed deer and chickens, and worked at the veterinary microbiology lab.
In her free time, Kahla enjoys camping with her two dogs or snuggling with her cats on the couch. She attempts to bake items she sees on the show “Great British Baking Show”, usually ending with mixed results.
